Located in a corner of the country that’s home to a wide assortment of wildlife, Vancouver, British Columbia is especially ideal for bear watching. While black bears have spoken for most of Vancouver Island, grizzlies can be found on the nearby Knight and Bute Inlets.
While Vancouver isn’t located on Vancouver Island, it’s easily accessible by plane and ferry from the North American mainland. Knight Inlet and Bute Inlet, which are located near the northern coast of the island, can both be easily reached from there as well. The remote regions of each locale are where bear-watchers are most likely to spot the beasts in their natural habitat.
Black bears are a relatively small species of bear and are North America’s most common. Grizzlies, which are related to brown bears, are fairly larger and characterized by a pronounced hump on their shoulders. They generally prefer to hang out near rivers, lakes, streams and ponds.
