Rising 1,200 metres (4,000 feet) above sea level, Vancouver’s Grouse Mountain is a popular destination during all seasons. Part of the North Shore Mountain Range, Grouse looms large over Vancouver and is home to world-class hiking and lumberjack shows in the summer and an alpine ski area in the winter.
During the winter months, Grouse’s four chairlifts serve 26 ski runs spread across the mountain. Grouse has runs suitable for skiers and snowboarders of all skill levels, making it the perfect destination for a family ski outing.
The mountain also features a Swiss-style tramway that treks up and down the mountain, a wildlife refuge and the high-definition Theatre in the Sky at its summit.
First developed for a ski area in the 1920s, Grouse eventually became a popular summer recreational site as well. The current ski area was built in the 1960s, and Grouse Mountain served as the site of The Today Show’s coverage of the 2010 Winter Olympics, which were held in Vancouver.
