Located 20 minutes from Vancouver, British Columbia in the nearby city of Burnaby, Metropolis at Metrotown is the province’s largest shopping mall and the second biggest in all of Canada. Anchored by Sport Chek, Atmosphere, Zellers, T&T Supermarket, Old Navy, Chapter and Urban Behavior, Metrotown features over 400 stores inside its 165,000 square metres (1.7 million square feet) of retail space.
Opened in 1986, the mall was once three different malls connected by skyways, and these were combined into one giant shopping center in 2005. Now, it attracts over a million individual shoppers per year. Metrotown is also home to western Canada’s largest food court, which includes everything from Mrs. Vanelli’s Pizza to Vina Vietnamese amongst two dozen fast food restaurants.
The three-level mall is served by highway, Vancouver’s SkyTrain transit system (connected to the mall by a skyway) and a bus route.
