Victoria, the capital of British Columbia, is an international tourist destination. It is the 14th largest urban area in Canada with a population of approximately 330,000 residents. Imbued with scenic beauty and rich heritage, Victoria is often referred to as the Garden City.
Victoria enjoys a sub-Mediterranean climate with mild winters and warm summers. The rain shadow effect is the reason for the less rainfall and dry sunshine in Victoria. It is blessed with greenery throughout the year because of the mild climate.
The town site of Victoria was developed in 1852 by James Douglas. It developed into a hub of trade and commerce. Today, the main occupations are tourism, technology and government administration.
