The City of White Rock borders Semiahmoo Bay and is also surrounded on four sides by the City of Surrey in British Columbia. The dividing lines between the two municipalities are Bergstrom Street which is to the west and the North Bluff Road which is to the north. There is also the Stayte Road to the east and Marine Drive to the south.
White Rock has moderate climate with average temperature of 17 degrees Celsius in summer and 4 degrees Celsius in winter. The Pilots are quite accustomed to flying around the area often and refer to it as ‘the hole in the sky’. This is because White rock is bright and sunny and the rest of the Lower Mainland is often covered by clouds.
White Rock is named for a distinctive large white boulder which was found on its beach near the promenade, which is glacial, erratic which migrated to the south during the last glaciations.
The modern history of White Rock is tied to the railway and links British Columbia to Washington State which runs along the shore of Semiahmoo Bay to the border.
