The main reason to visit Churchill is to see the region’s largest land carnivores, polar bears. Watch bears hunting and playing in the snow aboard the Tundra Buggies, which are specially-modified buses. Plan your trip in October or early November to make the best of this experience.
In the summer months, you can see hundreds of huge beluga whales making their way into warmer waters. Birdwatchers will also enjoy their stay in Churchill with over 200 species of birds including the rare Ross Gull and the migratory birds which are primarily seen between May and August.
Churchill is a great place to see the Aurora Borealis (Northern Lights) illuminating the night sky with a plethora of colours. Know more about the town’s fur trade history by visiting the Churchill River, and then head to the Prince of Wales Fort. The Churchill Rocket Research Range (or Fort Churchill) used to be the site for rocket launches; today, it hosts a research centre.
