Granby is located in the Monteregie region, which is in the south-west of the province of Quebec, Canada. It is the seat of the La Haute-Yamaska Regional County and lies on the banks of the Yamaska Nord River.
The metropolis of Montreal is located around 64 km to the west of Granby. In 2007, Granby was merged with the Township of Granby (which surrounded the city on the north and west) to become a single city.
Like most of south-western Quebec, Granby has a continental climate with hot, humid summers and long cold winters. There is enough precipitation throughout the year, with rainfall being around 1,000 mm and snowfall well over 300 cm
The population of Granby consists of 50,000 people. It is a commercial centre for industrial production of lumber, tobacco and textiles and also attracts a lot of travellers.
