‘Fort la Reine’ goes on to depict life during the eighteenth century; that used to be full of trading post, blacksmith shop, schoolhouse, country church, and numerous restored homes. This fort (original) was constructed in the year 1738 by Pierre Gaultier de Varennes, an explorer of French origin. It served as his HQ for around 15 years. This museum is also home to railway caboose; apart from William Van Horne’s official rail car dating back to 1882. William was builder of Canadian Pacific Railway.
Timings
This museum remains open from Mondays to Saturdays between 0900 and 1800 hrs; and on Sundays between noon and 1800 hrs.
Portage Arts Center and gallery
This center can boast of monthly exhibits, art classes, gift gallery, art rental program, and much more. It had also hosted concerts previously. For instance: Scott Carman and Graham Tabor.
