Tourist Guide Bathurst
Bathurst can be described as one of the Canadian cities located in Gloucester County, New Brunswick.
Bathurst lies on ‘Bathurst harbor’, i.e. an estuary located at mouth of Nepisiguit River in Chaleur Bay’s southernmost part.
The seventeenth century witnessed arrival of French travelers to this region. This had led to formation of Acadia colony at this location. Thereafter, Scottish and English people came down; especially at the time of late 18th century.
This community got name ‘Bathurst’ by Sir Howard Douglas, i.e. Governor; to honor Henry Bathurst, third Earl Bathurst; i.e. Secretary of ‘State for Colonies’ of British Government.
Opening of ‘Intercolonial railway of Canada’ in the year 1876 went on to provide a rapid connection from Bathurst port to remaining part of North America; that was necessary to develop principal industries of this region in terms of zinc mining and forestry.
