Miaramichi: Attractions and more...
Out of many tourist spots, the Miramichi River is the centre of all activity. The Historical museum, Miramichi Natural History of Museum is also one of the important tourist spots. French Fort Cove is a natural park which contains paddleboats, a children’s play ground and an ice cream shop. During the summer, the park provides many events and activities. The Middle Island, which now serves as a tourist location and memorial, has got its own history. In 1847 Typhus and Scarlet fever spread through out the ship Looshtauk while crossing the Atlantic ocean and of the 462 passengers at least 146 died in the route and 96 died while in quarantine. Marine (Seamen’s) Hospital is the oldest surviving hospital in Canada which is now served as a hall for a local church to the general public. Ritchie Wharf, which is a park, is the location of the Tourist information centre and many events that take place in the river. There are restaurants, art galleries, souvenir shops besides the walkway. Rankin House, which was constructed in 1837, is now a museum that contains a collection of objects that relates with the early life in New Brunswick.
