This monument lies on now known as Carleton Martello Tower National Historic Site of Canada. It had been built in the year 1813 for protecting port against probable attack by US. This thing was in to use in one form or the other till nineteenth century and again at the time of two world wars. During the World War II, it went on to serve as are HQ for anti-aircraft defense as well as ‘fire fighting services’, 2-storey concrete and steel structure having been added to serve this purpose.
The present scenario is such that this tower goes on to house exhibition of ‘military life’ in eighteenth century with guides especially in ‘historic costume’. General history has also been subject of varied displays.
Timings
This tower remains open for public every single day between 1000 and 1730 hrs. This slot is applicable only between 1st of June and 7th of October.
