The McConnell River Migratory Bird Sanctuary is a place which one can visit to watch sandpipers, arctic terns, gulls, jaegers, plovers, ducks, swans, sandhill cranes, loons, gyrfalcons, snowy owls, snow geese, peregrine falcons and more. This area is selected as a Wetland of International importance. Wildlife is abundant in the region and one can get the opportunity to watch millions of migratory birds, caribou, polar bears and beluga whales. The Whale’s Tail Monument built in 1967 is a notable landmark from where one can get splendid views of Arviat and its surroundings. The region has a strong musical background and the Inuumariit Music Festival is a weekend full of dance and music along with Hamlet Day celebrations. Floe edge is a place which one can visit by snowmobiles to watch the polar bears and in the months of October and November one can view the migration of the bears.
