Igloolik: Attractions and more...
Igloolik is an off the beaten track region, in the eastern Artic, which people like to visit to watch the wildlife and wilderness including the polar bears, waterfowl, seals, walruses, caribou and other mammals and birds. The stone carvers here make large size sculptures and work with unpolished stones. They use light green stones from the northern Baffin Islands.
Igloolik outfitters is an organization which arranges several land and sea adventures for tourists such as walrus sightings, dog team rides, polar bear watching, ice flow tours and visiting movie shoot areas. Igloolik has been used as a location for several documentaries and films such as Atanarjuat, Saputi, Nunavut and others. To get more information about the areas early inhabitants' one can visit the various archeological sites on the island, some of which date back to almost more than four thousand years.
