Prior to the amalgamation passed in 2001, the Regional Municipality of Greater Sudbury was the largest Census Metropolitan Area in Northern side of Ontario. Recent years show that the population of the city diminished slightly because of many youngsters moving to other parts of Canada, especially to the southern parts of the cities of Ontario.
Almost 30 %25 of the population of this city is Franco-Ontarian. The annual precipitation of snow fall is 274.4 cm and rainfall is 656.6 mm, with precipitation of 899.3 mm.
