Tourist Guide Kawartha Lakes
In spite of Kawartha Lakes being designated as ‘city’, it’s majorly a rural region. Municipality has been named for this city.
The creation of municipality can be traced to the year 2000 by Ontario’s ‘Progressive Conservative’ government via amalgamation of constituent municipalities pertaining to former ‘County of Victoria’. As such, it went on to come in to effect on the official level on 1st of January, 2001.
In one of the closed votes, Kawartha Lakes citizens voted for de-amalgamation in plebiscite held in the month of November in the year 2003. However, municipal and provincial governments haven’t done anything in this regard as of now.
The population of Kawartha Lakes as per 2006 census was 74561.
