Journey Behind the Falls
Those who aren’t satisfied seeing Niagara Falls from an above-ground observation deck will certainly want to take a trip with Journey Behind the Falls, where adventure-hungry tourists can stand in the mist created by the trillions of gallons of water crashing down into the Niagara River below.
Journey Behind the Falls trips take in between 30 and 45 minutes. Visitors are taken down by elevator 150 feet below the crest of the falls before heading through tunnels that lead to the Cataract and Great Falls Portals and observation areas at the bottom of the river gorge.
Watching the waterfalls this close up is without a doubt a once-in-a-lifetime experience. During the summer season, 2,800 cubic feet of water tumble over the cliffs every second, sometimes reaching speeds exceeding 100 meters per hour.
Thrill-seekers can access Journey Behind the Falls through the Table Rock Welcome Centre, located near Horseshoe Falls. Journey Behind the Falls is open every day of the year except for Christmas Day, with varying hours.
