Oshawa can be described as a city located in Ontario, Canada; along shoreline of Lake Ontario; at an approximate distance of 60 Km on the eastern side of ‘downtown Toronto’.
Oshawa has been commonly viewed as eastern anchor with respect to both: Golden Horseshoe and Greater Toronto Area. However, it needs to be noted that this city has metropolitan region of its own.
The name ‘Oshawa’ has been derived from ‘aazhaway’ an Ojibwa term; which means ‘the carring place’. Automobile Industry; particularly ‘General Motors Corporation’s Canadian division; called ‘General Motors Canada’; is at forefront of economy of Oshawa.
As per census conducted in the year 2006, Oshawa’s population was 141590.
Opening of Oshawa Shopping Center, better known as Oshawa Center in the year 1956 led to downtown of Oshawa. It’s still trying to recover from this irreparable loss.
