English is the language that is widely spoken in Ottawa, although both French and English is the official language. The Canadian dollar’s value has fluctuated in recent years as compared to the US. Loonie and Toonie are the two commonly used coins which are the $1 gold-colored coin and $2 silver- toned coin respectively.  

The restaurant tipping is a matter of individual preference but the customary amount is 15 percent of the total bill amount for large groups. The minimum legal drinking age is 19 years and most of the bars and restaurants stop serving alcohol by 2 a.m.
