Sorel Tracy is located in the south western part of Quebec in Canada at the confluence of the Richelieu River and the St Lawrence River.
This city holds fourth position among the other oldest cities in the world. The place was named after Pierre de Saurel. He was given the seigneury by King Louis XIV in the year 1672. And the name Tracy was derived from the Lieutenant General Alexander de Prouville, Sieur de Tracy.
The Christmas made its appearance in Sorel on Christmas Eve in the whole of North America. Once Prince William Henry, Duke of Glouchester made his visit to this town and the city was named in his honor till 1845.
