Stratford can be described as a city standing on ‘Avon River’ in southwestern Ontario’s Perth County in Canada.
When this region had been settled in the year 1832, townsite as well as river had been named after ‘Stratford upon-Avon, England’, of ‘Shakespearean’ fame. It’s also Perth County’s seat. The incorporation of Stratford as a town took place in the year 1859; and as city in the year 1886. This city has been symbolized by a ‘swan’. Every year, around 24 white swans; along with 2 black swans get released in to Avon River.
If thought from the historic point of view, Stratford had been one of the railway junctions. The present scenario is such that Goderich-Exeter Railway and Canadian National Railways make provisions for freight links; wherein VIA Rail Canada acts as ‘passenger carrier’. Cherry Bus Lines make provisions for bus service between Stratford and Wingham.
As per census conducted in the year 2006, population was 30461.
