Toronto City Centre Airport, commonly known as Toronto Island Airport, was opened to aviation in 1939. It is a small airport located on the Toronto Islands.
The airport is operated by the Toronto Port Authority which is jointly owned by Federal governments and the City of Toronto.
It was used for air force training by the Royal Norwegian and Royal Canadian Air Forces during the Second World War and has been used for civil aviation since then.
Due to its proximity to downtown hospitals the airport is used for medical emergency flights.
Besides this it is also used for general aviation, small charter flights, and private aviation.
The airport provides emergency response services like Airfield crash fire rescue and EMS service.
The airport is very scenic, especially at night and is a short walk from Skydome, the Rogers Centre. No takeoffs or landings are allowed after 11:00 pm as the ferry across the channel stops at midnight.
