A part of regional Muncipality of Niagara, Welland is located in Southern Ontario, Canada. It is well known as a place “Where Rails and Water meet.” The railways from Buffalo to Southwestern Ontario and Toronto as well as Welland Canal and Welland River converge at this place. Both the railway lines and water ways have played a very important part in the development of city. The Lincoln and Welland Regiment stationed here, is a Light infantry unit of 31 Canadian Brigade Group.
In 2006 the total population of Welland was 50,331. The city has large number of francophone residents in the population. It is one of those communities where Franco-Ontarians percent is more than the overall provincial average. The city is also nicknamed as “The Rose City”. Humid continental type of climate is mostly occurs in Welland. The city experiences snowy cold winters, wet mild springs, humid warm summers and wet cool falls.
