Windsor can be mentioned as the city located in southernmost part of Canada. Moreover, it lies at western end with regards to densely populated ‘Quebec City-Windsor Corridor’.

Windsor is situated on the southern side of Detroit. Besides, it has been separated by Detroit River from this city. One can view Detroit Skyline from this spot.

Windsor has obtained the sobriquet of ‘Rose City’. Also, people residing in Windsor are called ‘Windsorites’.

Before exploration as well as settlement by Europeans, Windsor region had been occupied by Native Americans and First nations. This city was settled for the first time in the year 1749 in the form of one of the French agricultural settlements; thereby having made it the most ancient continually inhabited one in Canada. ‘Petite Cote’ was the name given to it at first. Later on, it came to be known as ‘La Cote de Misere’, meaning ‘Poverty Coast’; thanks to sandy soils adjoining LaSelle.

Population as per 2006 Canadian Census was 218473.
