Tourist Guide Beloeil
Beloeil can be described as a city located in Quebec’s southwestern part, in Canada along the banks of Richelieu River; at the distance of 32 Km on the eastern side of Montreal.
Beloeil is a portion of regional County Municipality pertaining to La Vallee-du-Richelieu; that too, within Monteregie’s administrative region. It goes on to occupy Richelieu River’s west shore; just opposite Mont Saint-Hilaire.
Beloeil had been established in the form of a hamlet in the year 1903. It went on to become a city, i.e. ville in the year 1914. However, its history can be traced via parish of ‘Saint-Mathieu-de-Beloeil’ that had been erected in the year 1772; and also seigneurie de Beloeil; that had been founded in the year 1694.
The name ‘Beloeil’ has been derived from ancient ‘French’ expression ‘Quel bel oeil’; which means ‘What a gorgeous view!”, usually attributed to ‘Jean-Baptiste Hertel’, sibling of the 1st Lord of Beloeil, i.e. Joseph-Francois Hertel de la Fresniere.
The population as per 2006 census was 18927.
