Tourist Guide Chicoutimi
Till 2002 the city of Chicoutimi was a separate town and had its own rights. Located in Saguenay, Quebec, Canada, it is one of the 45 boroughs of Canada. It is located at the convergence of the Chicoutimi and Saguenay Rivers. The name of the place comes from Shkoutimeou which means “the end of deep water”. Quebec City is located at a distance of 225 kilometers from Chicoutimi. The first settlers came to the place in 1676 when it was a French trading post for Fur trade.
The total population of the place in 2001 census was 59,764 during which it was considered as a separate city. Chicoutimi was founded by Peter Mcleod in 1842. It became a major centre for Pulp production in the beginning of 20th century. It was a commercial and administrative centre during the Great Depression. Camrose in Alberta is the sister city of Chicoutimi.
The climate of the city is humid Continental. The mean temperature in July is 18 degree centigrade while in January the temperature ranges from -15 degree to – 17 degree.
