Les Cantons de l’Est, or ‘the Eastern Townships’, are located in the south-east region of Quebec, Canada. The topography of the region consists of farmlands, mountains, lakes and rivers. The ecological diversity of this region makes it rich in natural resources.
The climate of this area is extremely variable. From harsh cold winters with considerable snowfall to lush spring and warm summers, the Eastern Townships can be visited any time of the year.
Originally, colonised by the British, Scottish and Irish, the region welcomed settlers of French, Dutch, Swiss, Polish, Belgian and German origin. The architecture of the region stands testimony to the passage of time. With a population of nearly 300,000, the principal cities in Les Cantons de l’Est are Sherbrooke, Granby, Magog and Cowansville.
