Old Montreal is the oldest region in Montreal city in Canada.

To the east of Old Montreal is the Place Jacques Cartier where colonial mansions like Chateau Ramezay and important structures like the Notre-Dame-de-Bon-Secours Chapel, Montreal City Hall and Bonsecours Market are located.

In the region north of the City Hall there is Champ de Mars, which preserves the base of the city walls built in 1717 and brought down in the nineteenth century.

In the west is Place d’Armes where one can see the Sulpician seminary and Notre-Dame Basilica.

At present, the business district is located to the south of Mount Royal around Sainte Catherine Street; however there is major rebuilding in progress to improve its residential and commercial businesses.

Presently the expansion and growth of this area has made it the centre for entertainment, shopping, relaxation and for hosting various events and activities.
