Tourist Guide Rimouski
Rimouski forms the central part of Bas-Saint-Laurent region in the eastern side of Quebec. It is situated in the south shore of the St Lawrence River at the mouth of the Rimouski River.
The city is well known for its cultural heritage and that can be reflected in the various educational institutions and cultural centers. It is also the seat for the Rimouski Neigette Regional County municipality.
The city was founded by Sir Rene Lepage de Ste Claire in 1696. He exchanged property and came to this region but later on he sold his property to a City businessman Joseph Drapeau. Till now there are monuments and parks that depict this person’s name.
Rimouski also went through many ups and downs during the year 1950. There was a terrible blaze and in which several houses were burnt. But no one died. The legend says there was a priest who sprinkled holy water and the fire didn’t took the lives of the people.
The climate of this place is quiet moderate.
The population of this place comes to 42,240 according to 2006 census.
