Tourist Guide Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu
Situated in the province of Quebec, Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu is a city which is 20 km southeast of Montreal and on the west bank of the Richelieu River.
The city enjoys a continental climate, with hot summers extending from June to August and cold, snowy winters. Saint-Jean-sur-Richelieu also receives considerable rainfall.
The city was created in 2001 as a regional county municipality and included other neighbouring communities. At present, the population of this city is around 84,000. Earlier known as St. John’s, the city served as an important communication link during the French and Indian Wars.
Historically, the city was an important transportation hub. However, today, it is manufacturing centre of textiles, food and wood products. It also houses an Area Support Unit of the Canadian Forces.
