Salaberry-de-Valleyfield is located in the south western part of Quebec in the regional County Municipality of Beauharnois- Salaberry.
The place was named after Colonel Charles de Salaberry from the British Army during the War of 1812. The name Valleyfield came from Valleyfield mills.
