Sherbrooke can be described as a city located in Quebec’s south-eastern part in Canada.
Sherbrooke is the sole city within Eastern Townships. In spite of being settled originally in early nineteenth century (due to Anglophones); today, it’s primarily a city of ‘francophone’. Situated at Magos an St.Francis’s confluence in heart of Eastern Townships as well as ‘Estrie’ administrative region, Sherbrooke is name of TE, i.e. territory equivalent to a regional county municipality as well. Furthermore, it’s Quebec’s CD, i.e. census division; thereby being co-extensive with Sherbrooke city.
American Loyalists had settled the region of Shebrooke in the year 1793; inclusive of Gilbert Hyatt, i.e. a farmer residing in Schenectady, NY. He constructed a ‘flour mill’ in 1802. ‘Hyatt Mill’s’ was the name given to the hamlet. This lasted till 1818. Thereafter, renaming was done after ‘Governor General Sir John Sherbrooke’ during his retirement and reverting back to England.
The population as per 2006 census was 147427.
