American Loyalists had settled the region of Shebrooke in the year 1793; inclusive of Gilbert Hyatt, i.e. a farmer residing in Schenectady, NY. He constructed a ‘flour mill’ in 1802. ‘Hyatt Mill’s’ was the name given to the hamlet. This lasted till 1818. Thereafter, renaming was done after ‘Governor General Sir John Sherbrooke’ during his retirement and reverting back to England.
