Weyburn is a city situated in southeastern Saskatchewan in Canada. It is located on the Souris River around 110 kilometers to the southeast of the provincial capital of Regina and is 70 kilometer to the north of the border with the United States. This name is reputedly a corruption of the Scottish “wee burn” referring to a small creek. The city was legally constituted a village in 1900, as a town in 1903 and as a city in 1913. The land area of the city is 15.78 kilometers which is 6.09 square miles of land.
Weyburn is considered the largest inland grain gathering point in Canada. Over half a million tons of grain pass through the city terminals per year. Weyburn is the opportunity city and been dubbed the Soo Line City because of its connection with Chicago on the Soo Line of the Canadian Pacific Railway CPR.
Weyburn had a population of 9,433 in 2006 and this has declined from 9,534 in 2001. As per the 2006 Canadian Census, the population was 9,433.
