Although the local people called it as “Dawson”, in the tourist industry the name Dawson City is used to differentiate it from Dawson Creek in British Columbia.
The population of this place is 1327 as per the 2006 census.
There is a subarctic climate. In January, the temperature is -26.7 degrees Celsius while in July it is 15.6 degrees Celsius. The average rainfall in July is 48.4 mm. This place has retained the northern culture as there is a robust aboriginal community.
In this place, the Klondike Gold Rush began in 1896 and hence by 1898, the population of the town was 40,000.
