Yukon, Canada has an area of 482,443 sq km and a population of about 31,000. Its capital is Whitehorse.
The territory of Yukon shares its borders with British Columbia and Northwest Territories in Canada and Alaska in the USA. It has wide variations in topography from mountain ranges and plateaus to boreal forests and the tundra region.
Inhabited originally by the Navajo and Apache indigenous people, Yukon was then occupied by the French and the British. In the late nineteenth century, there was a spurt in population with the Klondike Gold Rush.
