Acámbaro is located in the south eastern corner of the Mexican State in Guanajuato, situated on the banks of Lerma River. The city was named after Native American term that means place of magueys. People from Mesoamerica were the first inhabitants to this place. The remains of this culture is preserved in the local museum of this area and forms one of the historic sites of this place.
The city was incorporated in the year 1526 and was the first Spanish town that is now the state of Gunanjuato. Due to its strategic location, this place has formed one of the fastest growing railway industries and contributed to the development of railway in whole of Mexico too. The land also proved to be successful in farming for crops such as maize, beans wheat and chick peas. At the same time cattle rearing is also very important.
Also famous for its bakery product, this town has a population of this town comes to 101,762 according to 2006 census.
The climate of this town is moderate.
