The Museo de la Insurgencia, a museum located at the old Hacienda de San Blas, is the site where Miguel Hidalgo (father of the Mexican War of Independence) lost leadership of the Independent Army; it contains memorabilia of this historical event and others. For the art lovers, the Museo de Arte Contemporáneo and the Museo de Aguascalientes house fabulous art collections. The Templo de San Antonia, Templo de San Marcos and the Catedral Basílica de Nuestra Señora de la Asunción are grand ecclesiastical buildings that must not be missed. For a feel of the regional culture, visit the town of Rincon de Romos, for the arts and craft exhibitions, regional music and dance, bullfights and cockfights.
The main attractions in Aguascalientes City are its thermal springs, located at the Sport Centre and the Ojocaliente Spa. Believed to have healing powers, these springs draw many visitors. The Sierra Fría, a protected nature reserve in the mountains, is host to diverse flora and fauna of the region. It is also a popular camping and hiking area.
