In Jalisco, Ciudad Guzman is a popular tourist town, frequented mainly for the Museo de Las Culturas del Occidente, where archaeological material and pre-Hispanic items are displayed. The Regional Museumof Jalisco houses ethnological and historical items. In Guadalajara, visit the beautiful Baroque churches, the Cathedral and Templo de Santa Mónica. The Basilica de Nuestra Señora de la Expectación in Zapopan is an important ecclesiastical building. The National Institute Cabañas, a Neoclassic-style building, exhibits frescoes painted by Jose Clemente Orozco (Mexican muralist). In Tlaquepaque is the Regional Museum of Ceramics.

The fishing village of Ajijic is well reputed for its thermal baths. Puerto Vallarta is one of Mexico’s most popular seaside resorts with several bays and beaches like Yelapa, Playa del Sol, Las Palmas and Bahía de Banderas. The coastal town of Melaque is well known for its beautiful beaches ideal for fishing, swimming and diving. Seated amongst the hills is Chapala Lagoon, popular amongst tourists.

Miniature wooden barrels and bottles of tequila can be purchased in the town of Tequila. In Tonala, one can buy local traditional artwork.
