Jalisco, Mexico has an area of 79,085 sq km and a population of about 6,752,100. Its capital is Guadalajara.
Jalisco shares its borders with the Mexican states of Zacatecas, Aguascalientes, Nayarit, Colima, Michoacán and Guanajuato and is bordered by the Pacific Ocean on the west. It has varied topography in the form of plateaus, hilly ranges, ravines, lakes and bays.
Jalisco was home to Indian tribes such as the Nahua, Huicholes and Tarascans, after which it was occupied by the Spanish. The population here is mainly Mestizo (mixed indigenous and foreign ancestry).
