The state of México in Mexico has an area of 21,355 sq km and a population of 14,007,500. Its capital is Toluca.
The state of México is bounded on the north by the Mexican states of Morelos, Guerrero, Michoacan, Hidalgo, Tlaxcala and Puebla. This region is abundant with fertile valleys, rivers and mountain ranges.
The population includes Mestizos (mixed indigenous and foreign ancestry) as well as various Indian tribes such as Teotihuacán, Chichimeca and Otomi. This region was home to the Aztecs before Spanish occupation.
