Nayarit, Mexico has an area of 26,979 sq km and a population of about 949,600. Its capital is Tepic.
Nayarit shares its borders with the Mexican states of Durango, Sinaloa and Jalisco and is bounded by the Pacific Ocean on the west. The topography of this region is diverse with mountain ranges, ravines, rivers and bays.
Home to Indian tribes such as the Tepehuano, Huicholes and Cora, it was also occupied by the Spanish. The population here is mainly Mestizo (mixed indigenous and foreign ancestry). |
