The rich culture of this region is evident in its museums such as the Regional Museum of Anthropology with ethnological and historical items on display. The Parque-Museo de La Venta is a unique open-air museum with archaeological exhibits along with zoological and botanical displays. The Popular Culture Museum showcases the handicrafts and cultural expressions of the natives. The Templo de la Concepcion, an eighteenth-century church in Villahermosa, is worth visiting. The archaeological sites of Comalcalco and Pomona display Mayan ruins such as temples and pyramids. Those who are further interested in history can visit the town of La Venta with Olmec remains from 800 AD.

The Las Flores Lagoon located on Teodomiro Hill provides a beautiful view of the surroundings. The Miramar Spa with fine sand and gentle waves is a popular tourist spot.  The town of Emiliano Zapata has facilities for angling, sailing and fishing. Cuesta Chica Grottos has thermal springs and waterfalls. Grutas de Cocona are beautiful caverns where you can try climbing and hiking.

For a taste of the local culture, attend the La Pesca de La Sardina Fair in Tapijulapa in May. The Desarrollo Fair in Villahermosa is full of exhibitions and stalls. Try sampling Tabasco sauce, originally from this state.
