The Zacatecas Cathedral, built in the Mexican Churrigueresque style, and the Convent of Nuestra Seńora de Guadalupe are important ecclesiastical buildings of this region.
The town of Sombrerete is renowned for its religious architecture such as the Baroque-style Temple of San Francisco, San Juan Bautista Church from the eighteenth century, and the Santo Domingo Church with a Churrigueresque façade.
The Universo de Pedro Coronel Museum exhibits artwork from around the world. The Museo Toma de Zacatecas recounts the history of this region during the Mexican Revolution. The pre-Columbian archaeological site of La Quemada or Chicomóztoc, with pyramids, circular columns and embankments, can be visited. The town of Chalchihuites is another archaeological zone.
For recreation, the Las Llamas and La Encantada Spas are ideal. The La Montesa Caverns, where several prehistoric remains have been found, must not be missed. For a unique experience, visit the El Edén silver mines. To purchase local handicrafts, visit the small town of Guadalupe. Attend the two-week festival in Zacatecas City with regional music and dance, bull and cock fights. For a taste of the local culture, attend the La Candelaria Feast in Sombrerete.
