This region is mostly frequented for its natural beauty. The fishing village of Cabo San Lucas offers visitors lovely beaches, opportunities for snorkelling and diving, where one can observe black coral reefs underwater. Do not miss the chance to observe grey whales at Laguna Ojo de Liebre. The town of Cabo del Este is popular amongst tourists for swimming, sailing and windsurfing. In the surrounding hills, activities such as mountain biking, hiking, horseback riding, and bird watching can be enjoyed.
The Cathedral of Nuestra Señora de La Paz, an eighteenth-century construction is an important tourist monument in La Paz. The Museo de las Misiones in Loreto bears testimony to the evangelisation of this peninsula. In the town of San Ignacio, you can see the primitive cave paintings of Cueva de la Cuesta del Palmerito. Santa Rosalia is an interesting historical mining town with colonial buildings lined along its streets.
An ideal haven for eco-tourists is the Vizcaino Biosphere Reserve with around one million acres of land and 450 km of coastline. It plays host to 308 animal species and 469 flora species. In addition to its biodiversity, the reserve has about 200 caves with rupestrian paintings and petroglyphs.
