Loreto offers a smorgasbord of kayaking, diving, sailing, fishing and other water activities on its manicured beaches. Apart from that, you can go trailing and hiking up the spectacular Sierra La Giganta Mountains, play a round of golf at the 6,800 yard Campo de Golf Loreto, explore the huge Bay of Loreto National Marine Park or just watch the giant whales pass through from the Bering Strait between January and March.
Historical attractions in the city include the mountain-top Mission of San Javier and the seventeenth-century Mision de Nuestra Senora de Loreto in the centre of town. A must-visit is the Sierra de San Francisco with its spectacular aboriginal cave-paintings dating back nearly 1,500 years.
Loreto’s downtown area is an excellent place to get Mexican art, sculptures and fabric which make for great souvenirs. Also, sample Loreto’s exquisite seafood and meat dishes like fish tacos, fillet steaks and Ceviche.
