Tuxtla Gutiérrez: Attractions and more...
The main attraction of Tuxtla Gutiérrez is the Miguel Alvarez del Toro Zoo, which houses a variety of flora and fauna native to Chiapas. To further explore the plant life of this region, visit the Botanical Garden.
The San Marcos Cathedral, built in the sixteenth century, is a sample of the Colonial architecture of Chiapas. Close to it is the Government Palace, seat of the state government. Situated in Parque Madero is the Regional Museum of Chiapas, which displays historical and ethnographical material. Nearby is the city’s principal theatre, Teatro de la Ciudad. There is also a recreational centre for children, Parque de Convivencia Infantil.
