Casas Grandes, one of the most important archaeological zones in Chihuahua, is a prime example of the Oasis culture. For a unique experience, head to Divisadero Barrancas, where you have a spectacular view of the Tararecura, Urique and Del Cobre ravines. Basaseáchic Falls at Ocampo are well frequented by tourists for their scenic beauty. San Ignacio de Arareko is a haven for eco-tourists with plush forests, lagoons and hilly ranges. The town of Coyame is famous for its mineral springs. Chihuahua has a rich history associated with it, now exhibited in its many museums. The Regional Museum (or Quinta Gameros) is one of Mexico’s finest examples of Art Nouveau and houses Chihuahuan archaeology and history. In Chihuahua City are the Federal Palace where Miguel Hidalgo (considered the Father of Mexico) was imprisoned and the Government Palace where he was executed. The Church of San Francisco contains his remains while the Museo Histórico de la Revolución contains his personal mementos. The Museo Casa de Juárez contains memorabilia related to Benito Juarez’s (Mexican President) visit. Other places worth visiting include the Cathedral of St Francis of Assisi with a Baroque façade. The Museo de Arte Popular exhibits the life and customs of the natives.
