Chihuahua has a rich history associated with it, now exhibited in its many museums. On Plaza Hidalgo is the Federal Palace with the prison cell where Miguel Hidalgo was imprisoned. Nearby is the Government Palace, where he was executed. The Church of San Francisco contains his remains while the Museo Histórico de la Revolución (or Pancho Villa Museum) contains Hidalgo’s personal mementos. The Museo Casa de Juárez contains memorabilia related to Benito Juarez’s visit.
Other museums include the Museo de Arte Popular, which exhibits the life and customs of the Natives. The Regional Museum (or Quinta Gameros) is one of Mexico’s finest examples of Art Nouveau, and houses exhibits on Chihuahuan archaeology and history.
Other places worth visiting include the Cathedral of St Francis of Assisi with a Baroque façade. The Churches of Santa Rita and Guadalupe are worth your while too.
You could purchase the Chihuahua dog in the Sunday Market.
