Colima, located on the Pacific Coast shares a border with the Mexican states of Jalisco and Michoacán. Its topography is dominated by the Pacific coastline and the Fuego de Colima volcano.
The name ‘Colima’ comes from the Nahuatl word ‘collimaitl’, where ‘colli’ means ‘ancestors or gods’ and ‘maitl’ means ‘domain of’, referring to the natural beauty of this place. Home to several Indian settlements, it was occupied by the Spanish in the sixteenth century.
