Durango has a number of monuments to be visited. In Durango City, the Baroque style Cathedral and the Neoclassical-style Municipal Palace from the nineteenth century are important tourist spots. In the old mining town of Mapimí is the Santiago Apostol Temple, constructed in the seventeenth century. The Museo de Antropología e Historias exhibits archaeological and ethnographic material as well as an art collection. For a look at local artwork and craftwork, visit the Museo de Culturas Populares. The special display in the Modern Art Museum in Gomez Palacio is the graphic exposition of the Mexican Revolution.

Around the city of Durango, there are the El Saltito Waterfalls. There are several thermal baths in the vicinity such as La Presa de Guadalupe Victoria and La Presa Peña. The El Tecuán Nature Park, located amidst mountains, is host to diverse flora and fauna. Several excursions to the nearby mountain range are organised from here.

For a unique experience, visit the ‘Zone of Silence’, a region where electromagnetic fields created by the iron oxide deposits do not allow any radio or television reception. You could also visit the Puente OjuelaMines, part abandoned, which have silver, lead and manganese deposits.
