Durango: Cities and Vacations

Durango, Mexico has an area of 123,181 sq km and about 1,509,100 inhabitants. Its capital is Durango City.

Durango is bounded by the Mexican states of Chihuahua, Coahuila, Zacatecas, Nayarit, Jalisco and Sinaloa. This region is dominated by the Sierra Madre mountainous range, valleys and plateaus.

Durango was populated in the pre-Hispanic times by semi-nomadic tribes, particularly the Tepehuano and Acaxe peoples. The population now is mainly Mestizo (mixed indigenous and foreign ancestry).
